자음 다섯 개 더

한글 읽기 · 7분

You now have enough to read a lot. Five more and you have almost the whole set.

ㄷ · d / tㄴ with a lid. Same tongue position, harder push.
ㄹ · r / lBetween English r and l. Tap the roof of your mouth once, like the “tt” in American “butter”.
ㅂ · b / pㅁ with the top opened.
ㅈ · jㅅ with a lid.
ㅎ · hA lid, a line, and an open throat (ㅇ).
Why “g / k”, “d / t”, “b / p”? Korean does not hear these as two different letters. The same letter sounds softer between vowels and harder at the start. Native speakers do not notice the difference — you will not have to choose.

ㄹ is the one to practise

It is not the English r, and not quite the English l. Say “butter” the American way and freeze on that middle tap. That is ㄹ.
