These are not part of the pattern — just learn them.
ㅐ · aeas in cat.
ㅔ · eas in bed.
ㅐ and ㅔ sound the same to most Koreans today. They were different centuries ago. You do not need to hear a difference — you only need to spell them right, and that comes with words, not rules.
