What this expression does
Besides -(으)세요?, there are several other ways to ask or offer something to someone senior. You pick one based on the setting.
Casually, among friends → -(으)실래요?
Politely, as at a restaurant or in service → -(으)시겠어요?
When asking about a plan → -(으)실 거예요?
가다 — to go가실래요?
앉다 — to sit앉으실래요?
드시다 — to eat (hon.)드실래요?
가다 — to go가시겠어요?
드시다 — to eat (hon.)드시겠어요?
기다리다 — to wait기다리시겠어요?
커피 한 잔 하실래요?Would you like a cup of coffee? — a casual offer
손님, 무엇을 드시겠어요?Sir/Ma’am, what would you like? — a polite offer (restaurant)
내일 이 자리에 다시 오실 거예요?Will you come back here tomorrow? — asking about a plan
-(으)실래요? asks their preference; -(으)시겠어요? is a notch more polite than that. With a senior person you don’t know well, or a customer, -(으)시겠어요? is the safer choice.
할머니, 이거 드실래요? (someone you’re close to)
손님, 이거 드시겠어요? (someone you’re meeting for the first time)
