2강. -군요: 새로 알게 된 사실에 대한 깨달음

반응 -네요 · -군요 · -지요 · 7분

In Lesson 1, you learned -네요 for direct sensory surprise (*“Brr, it’s cold!”*).

Now meet -군요: used when you learn a new fact or hear information, and acknowledge it with realization: *“Ah, I see! / So that's how it is!”*

- A colleague mentions they are taking the day off: *“아, 오늘 휴가시군요.”* *(Ah, so you're on vacation today!)*
- A friend mentions they’ve lived in Seoul for 10 years: *“서울에 오래 사셨군요.”* *(Ah, so you’ve lived in Seoul a long time!)*

While -네요 is an outward, bubbly exclamation, -군요 feels a bit more reflective, gentle, and dignified, often spoken like a calm acknowledgement: *“아, 그렇군요!”* *(Ah, I see!)*

What about -는군요?

You might occasionally notice -는군요 on action verbs in the present tense (*가다 → 가는군요, 먹다 → 먹는군요*).

Don't worry about memorizing a separate rule! It means the exact same thing as -군요 on adjectives (*크다 → 크군요*). Simply recognize both as the same realization marker!
