In Lessons 1 and 2, you learned -네요 (sensory surprise) and -군요 (new realization).
What if you already know the fact, and you simply want to confirm it with the listener or seek their agreement (*“Right?”, “Isn’t it?”, “You know, don’t you?”*)?
That is the realm of -지요 (contracted into -죠 in speech)!
- Walking in pleasant sunshine together: *“오늘 날씨 참 좋죠?”* *(The weather is really nice today, right?)* - Checking tomorrow’s schedule: *“내일 회의 2시지요?”* *(Tomorrow’s meeting is at 2 PM, right?)* - Answering in agreement: *“네, 그렇지요!”* *(Yes, exactly / of course!)*
