Have you noticed Koreans saying 맛있네요!, 춥네요!, or 예쁘네요! in the moment?
-네요 is used when you directly experience or perceive something right now, and make an immediate, spontaneous exclamation!
- Taking a sip of hot coffee: *“이 커피 정말 맛있네요!”* *(Wow, this coffee is really delicious!)* - Stepping outside into the winter chill: *“오늘 진짜 춥네요.”* *(Brr, it’s really cold today!)* - Seeing a friend’s new outfit: *“옷이 정말 예쁘네요!”* *(Your outfit looks so lovely!)*
It shares your genuine, live feeling with the listener in a warm, polite tone.
Ultra-Simple Conjugation!
Unlike many endings you’ve learned, -네요 never changes based on batchim or vowel harmony! Simply take the stem and attach -네요:
- 가다 → 가네요 *(They are going!)* - 먹다 → 먹네요 *(You eat so well!)* - 크다 → 크네요 *(It’s so big!)* - 작다 → 작네요 *(It’s quite small!)* - Past tense: stem + -았/었네요 *(어제 비가 많이 왔네요 = It really rained a lot yesterday!)* - Noun: Noun + -(이)네요 *(벌써 금요일이네요 = It’s already Friday!)*
