So far every block has been consonant + vowel. But a syllable can end in a consonant too, and it goes underneath. Korean calls it 받침 (*batchim*) — “the support”.
한 · hanㅎ + ㅏ + ㄴ. The ㄴ sits under.
국 · gukㄱ + ㅜ + ㄱ.
말 · malㅁ + ㅏ + ㄹ.
Here is the useful part
Any consonant can sit down there — but when it does, it collapses into only seven sounds.

ㄷ ㅌ ㅅ ㅆ ㅈ ㅊ ㅎㄷ (t, unreleased)
ㄹㄹ (l)
ㅁㅁ (m)

ㅇㅇ (ng)
“Unreleased” means you stop the sound and hold it. English “cat” lets the t out. Korean 갓 does not — the tongue arrives and stays. This one habit makes an accent sound much more natural.
