The particle (이)나 has two very distinct lives depending on where it appears in a sentence:
1. Choice (“Or / Either... or”): - Positioned between two nouns to suggest options (*“either A or B is fine”*): - *“커피나 차 드세요.”* *(Please have coffee or tea.)* - *“주말에는 영화나 독서를 해요.”* *(On weekends I watch movies or read.)* - *“밥이나 빵을 먹을까요?”* *(Shall we eat rice or bread?)*
2. Quantity Emphasis (“As many as... / A whopping...!”): - Attached to a counter or quantity number (*3 cups, 10 hours, 5 people*). - Conveys surprise or amazement that the amount is greater than expected: - *“커피를 세 잔이나 마셨어요!”* *(I drank as many as three whole cups of coffee!)* - *“어제 10시간이나 잤어요.”* *(I slept a whopping 10 hours!)*
