In Korean, stating facts too directly (*“This is bad”*, *“It is hot”*) can sound blunt. Native speakers constantly use -것 같아요 (*“It seems like... / I feel that...”*) to soften their speech.
In the present tense, adjectives and verbs take slightly different shapes:
1. Adjectives take -(으)ㄴ 것 같아요:
- No batchim → -ㄴ 것 같아요 *(바쁘다 → 바쁜 것 같아요)*
- Has batchim → -은 것 같아요 *(좋다 → 좋은 것 같아요)*
- ㅂ irregular → -운 것 같아요 *(덥다 → 더운 것 같아요, 춥다 → 추운 것 같아요)*
2. Action Verbs take -는 것 같아요:
- *“창밖을 보니까 비가 오는 것 같아요.”* (Looking outside, it seems to be raining.)
