In Korean, -아/어 보다 literally means *“to do and see”* → “to try doing something”.
- In invitations or recommendations: *“Give it a try!”* *(먹어 보세요 = Please try eating it)*
- In the past tense: *“I have tried it”* *(먹어 봤어요 = I tried eating it)*
Conjugation follows vowel harmony:
- Stem in ㅏ, ㅗ → -아 보다 *(가다 → 가 보다)*
- Other vowels → -어 보다 *(먹다 → 먹어 보다, 입다 → 입어 보다)*
- 하다 verbs → 해 보다 *(공부하다 → 공부해 보다)*
