The best part about -고 and -지만 is that they are completely regular!
Whether a stem ends in a vowel or a consonant (받침), whether it's an irregular verb or not, you simply drop 다 and attach -고 or -지만 directly to the stem.
For nouns, use -(이)고 and -(이)지만: - Ends in vowel: 의사고 / 의사지만 - Ends in consonant: 학생이고 / 학생이지만
가다 (to go)가 · 가고 · 가지만
먹다 (to eat)먹 · 먹고 · 먹지만
듣다 (to listen)듣 · 듣고 · 듣지만
춥다 (to be cold)춥 · 춥고 · 춥지만
학생이다 (to be a student)학생이 · 학생이고 · 학생이지만
Notice that irregular verbs like 듣다 (ㄷ irregular) and 춥다 (ㅂ irregular) do NOT change before -고 or -지만. They keep their base stem: 듣고, 듣지만, 춥고, 춥지만!
