못 goes in the same slot as 안, but means something different: I am unable to.

저는 수영을 못 해요. — I can’t swim.

Not a choice. A limit — no skill, no time, no permission, something in the way.

The longer form

-지 못해요 matches 못 the way -지 않아요 matches 안.

못 가요 = 가지 못해요
