Lesson 2. 학생이 아니에요

To say something is not so, you do not negate 이에요. You swap in a different word entirely: 아니에요.
저는 학생이 아니에요. — I am not a student.
One thing surprises everyone here
The noun before 아니에요 takes 이/가, not 은/는.
저는 의사가 아니에요. (○)
저는 의사는 아니에요. (△ — possible, but it means “*a doctor*, I am not — though maybe something else”)
학생consonant · 학생이 아니에요
의사vowel · 의사가 아니에요
Same split as yesterday: 이 after a consonant, 가 after a vowel. Notice 아니에요 itself never changes — only the particle in front of it does.
저는 일본 사람이 아니에요.I am not Japanese. 사람 + 이
이거는 커피가 아니에요.This is not coffee. 커피 + 가
제 친구는 가수가 아니에요.My friend is not a singer.
