TOPIK II Writing 51–52 Practice Book: What Is Inside and How to Use It
Questions 51 and 52 are the two fill-in-the-blank tasks at the start of the TOPIK II writing paper. They are short, so they look easy, but a wrong speech style or a spelling slip can cost you the marks. The only reliable way to get faster is to practise many of them and learn exactly what the marker rewards.
What is in the book
- 100 original questions for Questions 51 and 52, one sentence per blank, in the right style.
- For each question, several accepted answers, because the blank can usually be filled in more than one way.
- The scoring point: what earns the marks.
- The mistakes that lose marks.
This is original practice material written for practice. It is not made of past exam papers.
The one thing to check every time
Question 51 usually asks for the formal polite style (-(스)ㅂ니다), as in a notice or an email, while Question 52 asks for the plain written style (-(느)ㄴ다), as in an explanatory text. Before you write anything, look at the sentences around the blank and match their ending exactly.
How to use it
- Do ten questions in one sitting with a timer. Aim for about five minutes per question at first and get faster.
- Mark your answers, then read the accepted answers and the scoring point, even for the ones you got right.
- Keep a list of your repeated mistakes (style, spelling, particle) and re-do those questions a week later.
Next in the series
A companion book for Questions 53 and 54 is now available: 100 questions with a model answer, scoring criteria and three sample answers (high, middle and low score) with the reasons for each score.
