English joins sentences with separate words — *and, but, so*. Korean prefers to bend the first verb and glue the halves together. This is what makes speech sound fluent rather than chopped.
밥을 먹고 갔어요 — I ate, then left. Two separate events. 시장에 가서 샀어요 — I went to the market and bought it there. The second half carries on from the first.
