In daily life, you learned to make requests or give polite directions with -(으)세요 (*“여기에 앉으세요”*).
In public transit, airport broadcasts, official signs, and formal service, you will encounter the formal imperative: -(으)십시오:
- Stem without batchim → -십시오 *(타다 → 타십시오 = Please board)*
- Stem with batchim → -으십시오 *(앉다 → 앉으십시오 = Please take a seat)*
- Formal Prohibition → -지 마십시오 *(사진을 찍지 마십시오 = Please do not take photos)*
Introduce oneself저는 마이클이에요. · 저는 마이클입니다.
Ask destination어디에 가요? · 어디에 갑니까?
Compliment food정말 맛있어요. · 정말 맛있습니다.
Tell someone to sit여기에 앉으세요. · 자리에 앉으십시오.
Prohibit entering들어오지 마세요. · 들어오지 마십시오.
Mastering the Switch!

- Presenting slides to an audience: *“오늘 발표를 시작하겠습니다.”* (Formal)
- Chatting with attendees during coffee break: *“커피 드시면서 이야기해요.”* (Conversational)
출입문이 닫힙니다. 뒤로 물러서 주십시오.Subway announcement: The doors are closing. Please step back.
좌석에 앉아 주십시오.Flight broadcast: Please be seated.
박물관 안에서는 사진을 찍지 마십시오.Museum sign: Please do not take photographs inside the museum.
