Notice the single-letter difference that completely changes the meaning:
- -아/어도 돼요? *(May I? — Asking permission)*
- -아/어야 돼요? *(Must I? — Asking about obligation)*
Mixing up 도 and 야 changes “May I leave?” into “Do I have to leave?”
