When spoken in isolation or before a consonant, all Korean final consonants simplify into one of these 7 representative sounds: [ㄱ ㄴ ㄷ ㄹ ㅁ ㅂ ㅇ].

Liaison is the most frequent rule in everyday Korean: usually carry the final consonant sound over into the following vowel (exceptions: final ㅇ stays as 'ng', and final ㅎ is usually silent, as in 좋아 [조아]).

3 · Liaison: How to Carry the Sound Over · 소리 나는 대로 읽는 연음 법칙

When a syllable ending with a batchim is followed by a syllable starting with the silent vowel placeholder ㅇ, move the final consonant sound directly into that vowel: 물 + 이 → [무리], 밥 + 을 → [바블], 옷 + 이 → [오시]. If a consonant follows, pronounce the representative sound: 옷장 → [옫짱].
